The Israeli High Court on Thursday “temporarily” restricted some of the powers of National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir after reviewing petitions seeking his dismissal for alleged interference in police affairs.
“The High Court today issued temporary orders restricting the powers of the national security minister in a number of fields,” according to public broadcaster KAN.
It added that the main areas affected include “appointments within law enforcement bodies and statements related to police use of force.”
The report said that “the minister will not be able to proceed with senior appointments in law enforcement positions except upon police recommendation, and will be required to notify the government’s legal adviser (Gali Baharav-Miara) in advance.”
